Brief History of the Institution

About JSS Mahavidyapeetha:

J.S.S.Mahavidyapeetha, Mysore is well known for promoting the cause of education in the Southern part of Karnataka for over four decades.Jagadguru Sri Shivarathreeshwara Mahavidyapeetha is the central body that runs over 350 educational institutions. It was established in the year 1954 by the foresight and vision of his Holiness Jagadguru Late Sri Sri Sri Dr. Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamiji, the 23rd pontiff of Suttur Mutt. The Vidyapeetha runs institution from the crèche level to Research Institutions, training doctoral scholars.

The present pontiff, His Holiness Jagadguru Sri Shivarathreeshwara Deshikendra Mahaswamiji is the current President of the J.S.S.Mahavidyapeetha. Under his able direction and blessings many high schools, several colleges, Ayurvedic College, Engineering Colleges, Polytechnics, Industrial training institutes, college of Physiotherapy, institute of speech & Hearing , College & Schools of Nursing are functioning efficiently. The present Pontiff’s illustrious predecessors have been the driving force in formulating the policies and programmes, in terms of broadening the vision of the J.S.S.Mahavidyapeetha. This has been endorsed by many educationists as more than a university. Several thousands of students, teachers and employees derive benefit from these institutions.

JSS College of Physiotherapy:

Rehabilitation is the need of the hour and Physiotherapy plays a crucial role. As Physiotherapists we must estimate and gauge the functional capabilities and potentials of our patients, many of whom suffer injuries that cannot be corrected. During these times of distress Physiotherapists do play a major role as they have to reach out and rehabilitate clients. Therapists have a major role to play to improve the health of our nation, by skills and techniques affected by the various members of the rehabilitation team. Our motto is “Reach out and make this world a healthier place to live in’.

• To promote quality physiotherapy education at all levels, to produce competent physiotherapists, with entrepreneurship & innovative skills.
• To establish Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programs in the institution for practicing physiotherapists.
• To create & strengthen public awareness about need for a healthy life style for mutual benefits.
• To provide excellent physiotherapy facilities and motivate the public to use the services optimally.
• To collaborate with national and international organizations for educational, clinical and research programs.

Location:

The college is situated at the JSS hospital at Ramanuja road, Mysore. The college is about 1 km. from the centre of the city. Mysore is synonymous with lush green gardens, salubrious weather, beautiful landscapes, palatial buildings and Maharajas who ruled the region earlier. It is also known for the best educational institutions. The Mysore University is one of the oldest universities in the country. Mysore is about 140 Kms. from Bangalore city, the capital of Karnataka and is well connected by road, rail and air.

Health-Concept & Philosophy Of The College

Physiotherapy is not only responsible for physical fitness but also accelerates psychosocial rehabilitation and strengthens one’s determination to over come the disabling condition. The concept of faster fitness and physical rehabilitation is universally accepted and practiced worldwide. Physiotherapy is a modern choice to solve physical problems, impairment and disabling conditions. It prevents deformity and helps to keep the ‘body’ and ‘mind’ fit. The faculty accepts the fact that professional education of physiotherapy at the University level for Bachelor Degree In Physiotherapy will prepare a better qualified physiotherapist and assume the responsibilities of providing total patient care at various levels in different settings.
