EDUCATIONAL INNOVATIONS :
In order to keep pace with the changing trends and professional standards, it is necessary for every educational institute to innovate new ways and means of disseminating information, creating interest in the learners and to trigger inherent inquisitiveness of the students. Exercises are being carried out in this institute to this end and have been found to be very useful. Few are mentioned here:
- Distribution of course handouts to students for theory and practicals in the beginning of the academic year to give them an idea of course objectives, course materials, exam schedules, evaluation, lecture and practical schedules etc. has been found to be a very useful exercise. It not only keeps them informed about the course, but creates interest and curiosity in the young minds. Some of the students try to look for details themselves and come well prepared to the class and make lectures discussion-oriented rather than the normal chalk and talk.
- Freshmen Orientation Programme, conducted in the beginning of the academic year, especially for the fresh students, where information regarding the profession of pharmacy, job opportunities, ethics, industry, hospital and higher studies are given, was found to be a meaningful exercise.
- Feed-back questionnaires are distributed at the end of academic year, to all students, in order to get students response and their experiences and suggestions to improve the college functioning with respect to teaching, learning facilities etc. Few students have given useful suggestions.
Such innumerable exercises have to be carried out regularly. Education is a dynamic system and demands continuous overhauling, modifications and innovations.
