About JSS Mahavidyapeetha:

J.S.S.Mahavidyapeetha, Mysore is well known for promoting the cause of education in the Southern part of Karnataka for over four decades.Jagadguru Sri Shivarathreeshwara Mahavidyapeetha is the central body that runs over 350 educational institutions. It was established in the year 1954 by the foresight and vision of his Holiness Jagadguru Late Sri Sri Sri Dr. Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamiji, the 23rd pontiff of Suttur Mutt. The Vidyapeetha runs institution from the crèche level to Research Institutions, training doctoral scholars.

The present pontiff, His Holiness Jagadguru Sri Shivarathreeshwara Deshikendra Mahaswamiji is the current President of the J.S.S.Mahavidyapeetha. Under his able direction and blessings many high schools, several colleges, Ayurvedic College, Engineering Colleges, Polytechnics, Industrial training institutes, college of Physiotherapy, institute of speech & Hearing , College & Schools of Nursing are functioning efficiently. The present Pontiff’s illustrious predecessors have been the driving force in formulating the policies and programmes, in terms of broadening the vision of the J.S.S.Mahavidyapeetha. This has been endorsed by many educationists as more than a university. Several thousands of students, teachers and employees derive benefit from these institutions.

J.S.S. Institute of Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences:

J.S.S. Institute of Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences was established in the year 1997, by JSSMVP, at Ooty, with a vision of popularizing the system of Naturopathy and Yoga not only in Tamil Nadu, but also all over our country and abroad. The Institute runs a Nature Cure and Yoga Hospital as well as a college, which offers a comprehensive education in Naturopathy and Yoga. The college offers a five and half year degree program in Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences (BNYS), the curriculum of which comprises of a blend of basic medical subjects like anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pathology, etc., and all the possible drugless natural therapeutic systems such as hydrotherapy, diet and nutrition, massage, acupuncture , reflexology, yoga etc. Students learn under the guidance of outstanding faculty. Laboratory experiments, demonstrations, clinical experience and case-oriented teaching help students develop practical, patient oriented skill and understanding. The degree program includes one year compulsory rotatory internship, which is done in well established naturopathy hospitals. JSS Institute of Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences aims at providing a holistic health care system to the health seekers, a comprehensive education in the field of naturopathy and yoga therapy to its students, to be recognized as one of the renowned institutions of its kind in the country.

Infrastructure:

  • Laboratories - The college has well equipped laboratories for anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pathology and microbiology. The hospital of JSS INYS is well equipped with treatment facilities such as hydrotherapy, physiotherapy, massage sections, yoga and diet center.
  • Computer Center -The computer center has been installed in the library with internet facilities.
  • Library (No. of Volumes) - The college has a full fledged library with adequate books totaling 3000 more on Medical Sciences, Naturopathy, Yoga and General studies.

Hostel: The course is residential. Separate hostel facilities are available for both boys and girls with the capacity to accommodate 160 students. The numbers of rooms are 20 at present separate for both boys and girls.

Medical /Health :The students of JSSINYS have formed blood donors club ‘Deerghayush’ on June 14, 2004. This group donates blood whenever the need arises.

Cultural activities: The College participated in the Cultural & Sports Activities held in Namakkal, as the Inter – Indian Medicine Colleges of the Tamil Nadu State on 26 & 27 November 2004 and won accolades. 32 Prizes were won. JSSINYS stood first in the cultural activities. Symphony 2007 An inter college literacy and culture festival, Organized by “Rotaract Club of Ootacamund” sponsored by Suvarna International Institute of Management Studies held on 11th August 2007 at YBA Hall, Ooty. Our student had actively participated in all the programmes like group song and group dance. Prizes were won in Mr. Symphony – Mr. P. Athreyan III BNYS ( Won the Title), Fashion Parade 12 Participants – First Prize, Elocution S. Sharmila – IV BNYS – Third Prize & Dam Charades 3 participants – First Prize.

Educational activities :
The students are encouraged to attend scientific conferences which is appropriate to the field of naturopathy and yoga. The students have also won many awards in yoga competitions which were held at different conferences all over India.

Sports Facilities : They are provided with all sports kit of both indoor and out door games.

Publication of the Institution:
The first college Magazine has been released in 2004. Yoga for Jawans, Book on Kriyas.
