Ayurveda is the science of life that emphasizes the necessity of balance in physical, physiological, psychological, social and spiritual aspects, in order to maintain health and to prevent ill health as well as relieving the ailments. Its principles are even today applicable in all walks of life more effectively. In order to continue our ancient wisdom with present scientific approach and reach the community, with the blessings and inspiration of His holiness Jagadguru Sri Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji, JSS Ayurveda Hospital was started during August 1992.
Subsequently With an objective to offer excellent Ayurveda education to produce efficient Ayurvedic physician/researcher/academician, JSS Ayurveda Medical College was established in the year 1996-97, at Shivarateeshwara Nagar, Mysore.
A Well equipped hospital, college with efficient staff in all eight branches of Ayurveda, both theory and practicals have been systematically made available to the students.

JSS Ayurveda Medical College, apart from providing quality education to the disciples of Ayurveda, focuses on overall development of the individual with human values through education, research and clinical applications. The institution aims to achieve the mission of reviving the ancient glory of Indian Medical heritage.
As a pupil of this prestigious institution, one will experience the unique relationship between the teacher and taught along with learning of ancient wisdom with modern approach suitable to current requirements that would enable the individual to enter into practice, academic or research field of Ayurveda.

WHY STUDY AYURVEDA
Ayurveda, the archaic system of medicine in the world is catering quality health to the population. It is one of the recognized alternative systems of medicine globally. The unique principles of the science, the unmatched holistic approach in maintenance of health as well as alleviating the sufferings of mankind, though appear to be thousands of years old, are most relevant and adaptable even in this 21st century. The plethora of knowledge about the medicinal plants has become the interest of western scientists too. This has given rise to explorative interest in the field of research. The peerless approach in prevention of diseases through healthy life style as well as periodical elimination of the morbid factors has become the need of the hour in-order to prevent the various types of hazards both intrinsic and extrinsic
Study of Ayurveda makes an individual to practice at community level through health education providing preventive therapeutic modalities as well as treating the ailments safely and successfully as a physician
Apart from this, the study of Ayurveda also opens new avenues for re-establishing the facts in the science through researches as well as to fulfill the academic pursuits.
JSS Ayurveda Hospital
JSS Ayurveda Hospital which is started several years prior to the establishment of JSS Ayurveda Medical College is known for its high quality services and has soaring reputation in the population.
The 150 bedded hospital, functions through 10 out patient units that include Yoga and Naturaopathy unit too. Principle oriented approach to the management of various diseases makes the learner of Ayurveda to pickup the skills of a physician.
The hospital organizes periodical disease specific camps to create ample opportunity to the community to access effective treatment as well as the learners of Ayurveda a better professional exposure and experience.
Facilities available in hospital are:
- Panchakarma a specialized therapeutic approach in Ayurveda deals with eliminatory therapies and other therapeutic modalities.
- Separate Panchakarma units for male, female and children
- Ksharasutra procedure in Shalya chikitsa for ano-rectal disorders such as piles and fistula etc Special procedure for wound management
- Special procedure for wound management
- Special therapeutic applications for refractive errors, migrane and headache
- Effective treatment for female infertility
- Apart for common childhood ailments effective treatment for malnutrition, learning deficit, mental retardation is made available
Hostel:
- Institution is having hostel facility for boys and girls with homely atmosphere in the campus.
New premises of JSS Ayurveda Medical College:
- The present college is functioning in JSS Medical College Campus itself. The New Ayurveda campus is being raised at the foot hills of Chamundi covering 15 acres of land at serene and pure environment. This provides all the requisite facilities like Hospital block with sophisticated cottage facilities for the patients seeking extra boarding facility.
- A pharmaceutical unit, which can cater genuine medicine, college block, well furnished hostel for boys and girls and staff quarters with herb garden covering an extensive area.
Library
The library consisting of the volumes of Ayurvedic literature covering all disciplines of Ayurveda as well as the texts of conventional system of medicine
The students and teachers are updated with the advanced information in the field, through 30 various journals as well as an access to Internet.
Separate reference facilities for both students and staff are made available.
Dhanvantari Mulikavana (Herb garden):
- Garden consisting more than 500 species in multiples, which fulfills the need of fresh plant material to hospital.
- A mini Herb garden is, also developed for demonstration purpose that enables the students to identify the plants used in Ayurveda more aptly.
Laboratories:
Anatomy and Physiology:
Dissection Theatre with adequate facility and museum with models and preserved organs
Laboratory for hematology and bedside training for determination of Prakruti, sara and samhanana etc.
Dravyaguna:
Facilities for-
- Identification of Dry and Fresh plant materials
- Clinical pharmacology for single herb therapy (Ekamoolika Prayoga)
- Preliminary phyto-chemical analysis,
Rasashastra and Bhaishajya kalpana:
Facilities for-
I. BAMS (Bachelor in Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery-Ayurvedacharya)
- Duration 4 ½ years with 1 year compulsory internship
- Intake per year-50
- Admission starts soon after the announcement of the P.U.C. results.
- Admission closes on 30th August.
Eligibility for admission
- Students must have passed II PUC examination or equivalent examinations from respective state examination boards
- Candidate should complete 17 years of age as on 31st December in the year of Admission
- Fees as fixed by Government and Management from time to time
- The student should have secured 50% in Physics, Chemistry and Biology, under general merit.
- However under SC/ST, category I, IA, IIA, IIB, IIIA, IIIB, the students should have scored 40% in Physics, Chemistry and Biology, This is applicable to the residents of Karnataka only.
- Admission procedures for international students –
An international student seeking admission shall enclose the following certificates along with application-
- An Eligibility certificate obtained from Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore
- A Clearance certificate obtained from Ministry of Human Resources Development, Government of India, New Delhi.
II. M.D.(Doctor of Medicine-Ayurveda Vachaspathi)
Post-graduation in Rasashastra
- Duration – 3 years
- Intake per year – 04
- Admission starts in May
- Admission closes on 15th June
Eligibility for admission
- B.A.M.S degree from any university recognized by Central Council of Indian Medicine, New Delhi, India
- The N.S.S unit of the college creates an opportunity for the students to develop voluntarism to serve the society.
- Through weekly and fortnightly camps the students are made to work in the community and to involve in health education.
- Tree-planting and other activities, creates awareness about conservation of medicinal plants, and protecting the environment.
- 10days long term camps help the students to live in the community and learn the facts of the society thus preparing them to develop the value added human relationships.
- Institution organizes week long enthralling lecture series under the name Dhanvantari sapthaha to Update and enhance the knowledge of various allied disciplines.
- To familiarize the students with the identification of medicinal plants, the Dravyaguna dept. organizes field visits to various herb gardens, forest areas.
- Visiting the manufacturing units is organized by Rasashastra Bhaishajya kalpana department.
- Svastha vritta department organizes visits to various centers that can be responsible for protecting the health of the community like sewage board, water treatment plant, food processing units etc..
Thirty nine faculty members actively involve in the quality education of Ayurveda, working under 14 departments.
